History of Transports Capelle

1950: Monsieur René Capelle creates a small transport company in Salles du Gardon (French department 30 - le Gard), where he is unique employee. He transports coal from the Cevennes Coal Basin as well as construction equipment. 1960’s the activity develops itself and diversifies thanks to the transport of boiler tanks and casting pieces from the plants of the region.The activity expenses and diversifies thanks to the transport of boiler tanks and casting parts from the plants of the region.

1961: The Company employs 4 people. The scope of goods being transported is widening: Tanks, casting components, oversized and heavy transports all over France.

1970’s The Company sets up his HQ in Saint Hilaire de Brethmas on 42 000 sq. m, including 400 sq. m of offices and 1 200 sq. m of workshop; the workshop permits a mechanical follow-up of all the fleet. The company rises from 4 and 17 employees. It develops thanks (amongst others) to the French Nuclear Program that needs very big oversize and heavy load transports considered as “sensitive”.

1972: Opens an agency in Marcq in Baroeul (French department 59) facilitating by that way backloads of vehicles coming from the south and allowing a development and exchanges with the North Europe countries.

1982: the company is buying a plant in Commines (department 59) which will be used to stock Coca Cola pallets coming from Spontin (Belgium) and Pennes Mirabeau (department 13)The company acquires a plant in Comines (department 59) which is used to store Coca cola pallets coming from Spontin (Belgium) and Pennes Mirabeau (department 13).

1983: Capelle Company takes over the Dhalluin transport company in Linselles (department 59).

1986: A new agency is created in Templemars (59) on over 12 500 sq. m.

1989: The creation of an agency in Metz (57) allows the opening onto Germany and the East European countries.

1990: Transports Capelle is awarded “Palms on Transport”.

1991: The Company creates a quality manual.

1992: A new agency is created in Ile-de-France Region while taking over Razel company in Etampes (91) at the same time the acquisition of Calmes Transports in Portet sur Garonne (31) allows the opening onto the Spanish and Portuguese markets.

1995: The Ile-de-France agency moves to Pontault-Combault (77) close t the Paris’ orbital motorway. The implementation of a new software allows computer managing of tachograph disks.

1996: Commercial and operation services are computerised, truck refuel tasks are managed by computer technology and all the lorries are equipped with radio-telephones. The company obtains AFAG ISO 9002 certificate.

1997: All the lorries are equipped with an on board computer systems (AGAT system) permitting drivers’ working time management and GPS system allowing localisation of the lorries

1998: The renewal over a 3-years period of 90 4x2 trucks is scheduled.

1999: All the agencies are linked to a computer network. Taking over Christner Transports in Selestat (67) allows an opening of a new agency. The company buys 50% shares of STAG Company (transports and handling). Overall number of employees: 196.

2000: Take over Morineau Transports in Jard (85) – an oversized and heavy load company. Overall number of employees: 266

2001: The Capelle Company is still expending. Acquisition of Drion Transport in Domazan (30). Rise of Capital to: 1M€.

2002: Capelle acquires AYE Company in GAP (05) and transports activities of Vassel Company in Lyon (69). The HQ and administrative premises are extended. Overall number of employees: 304. Capelle moves into the high range heavy haulage market with the A380 Airbus and the Millau Viaduct contracts. Daniel Capelle (C.E.O.) is awarded Social Manager of the Year. By M letter.

2003: Creation of 2 new agencies in Comps (30) and Paris (95). Overall number of employees: 304 – ISO 9001 ver. 2000 certification. The Company receives the reward “Transport Company of the Year”. Setting up of Capelle Investments holding that marks the birth of Capelle Group.

2005: Take over Benetton transports (38) and merging with our agency in Rilleux la Pape (69) (10 trucks) in order to create an unique agency in Lyon area at St Clair du Rhône (38).

2007: Oligo Transports (27) is acquired on the 1st Of October a Capelle Normandy agency. The same day EGT transports (30) (conventional transport) integrates the Domazan Capelle agency.

2008: January: Opening of Capelle Bretagne in Ploudaniel (29). End of the year 2008; Buc premises (former Transports Moraud) becomes Capelle Buc agency (78). Martigues premises (former Marins de la Routes) becomes Capelle Martigues agency (13).
